The Coliseum Core Machine

The Coliseum Project

This is a project, sponsored by
The Anvil Organisation Ltd.
to create a customer build kit for a multi-role household server.

Aren't you tired of dead end "Pizza Boxes"?

This system is built from standard, off-the-shelf PC bits, in a sitting room friendly case, topped off with a remote control and a conventional 32" HD ready LCD TV

A couple of decades ago, the sorts of computing used here was the province of the white coats and 6 digit price tags. Now the machine pictured above costs in the £100s and makes those behemoths look like wrist watches. It also incorporates previously prohibitively expensive professional mainframe/minicomputer style software techniques in a way that will cost you nothing in licenses, you in fact already own a full right to use this stuff as many times on as many machines as you like. It's called "Open Source Software".

As the project grows, it is hoped that we can start putting together discounted bundles with some of the UK computing equipment suppliers and maybe have a database of known good cards with indexes of people using them who might be able to offer help and advice.

The machine serving you this web site is the machine described opposite, pictured above and indeed being used live as a front room "Home Theatre PC". In a future version of this site, some of the daily stats will be available on a separate page.
